We are delighted to recommend Peter Wright's book Model Engineering as an excellent value purchase for an introduction into the engineering disciplines. As one reviewer put it:

The books title states this is a foundation course in engineering. How often I read something along these lines, only to find that is not the case. Peter Wright however makes no overstatement in the title, as this for me has become my bible in finding the method needed for a particular job in hand. It's well written with plenty of good black and white photographs to accompany the detailed text. Too often in books subjects are covered but leave you asking questions still, hopefully here you`ll find the answers. The reader will also find many useful tips the author has acquired over the years, and with 150 pages out of the 400 devoted to the lathe, this last part of the book is a must for anyone who owns one.
